WLAN-USB-Stick und Gentoo - geht nicht mehr

Hallo zusammen,

ich muß vorausschicken, daß ich bisher mit WLAN wenig zu tun hatte.
Doch seit unser devolo nicht mehr so gut funktioniert (Elektroleitungen sind schon sehr alt),
haben mein Sohn (im 2. Stock) und ich (im 1. Stock) - Decken Beton - doch WLAN ausprobiert.

Wir sind bei KabelBW mit 100 Mbit ausgestattet, unmittelbar im Erdgeschoß oder mit Leitungen
verbunden, bekommen wir auch 100 Mbit.

Doch WLAN in den beiden oberen Stockwerken machte immer Probleme.

Jetzt haben wir als Router "Asus RT.N56U" und entsprechend für 802.11n ausgestattete USB-WLAN-Sticks.

Mein Rechner ist noch relativ neu und hat USB-3.0, woran ein solcher Stick angeschlossen ist. Übrigens Gentoo 64bit.

Bei folgenden Distributionen kann ich nun per WLAN ins Internet mit ca 20 bis 25 Mbit, was erst einmal ausreicht:
Mageia 3
Fedora 18, 19 und 20 (rawhide)
Slackware
PCLinuxOS

Nur bei Gentoo tue ich mich sehr schwer, weil ich nicht so genau weiß, wie ich die entsprechenden Dateien korrekt
ausfüllen muß.

Die Anleitungen sind zwar sehr gut, aber für mich nicht ausreichend genug. (Zumal ja wohl viele unterschiedliche Voraussetzungen anzunehmen sind).

Hier ist zu sehen, daß Ralink RT3072 der USB-Adapter ist.
Im Moment nutze ich kernel-3.9.0, doch dieser Treiber ist im Kernel nicht vorhanden.
RT2800usb ist wohl der passende Treiber.

Doch kommt beim Booten bei WLAN immer schon ein failed.
Die Datei wpa_supplicant ist der Punkt, der mir Probleme bereitet,
weil ich nicht weiß, was und wie ich da etwas ändern soll/muß.

Folgendes ist bei den anderen Distributionen eingetragen:
WPA/WPA2-Personal
Asus-AMG ist das Netz
Geführt

Nur, wie gebe ich das bei Gentoo korrekt in wpa_supplicant ein?

Für entsprechende Hilfe wäre ich sehr dankbar.

Wenn du das alles hast, dann erldeigt dir NetworkManager die Einstellungen für dich Automagisch ... oder wicd ... oder willst du alles zu Fuss (zu Hand) machen?

Doch was ich mehrmals gefunden habe, ist

phy0 -> rt2x00lib_request_firmware: Error - Failed to request Firmware.

Was heißt das? habe ich da bei genkernel --menuconfig all einen Fehler gemacht,
als ich fast alle USB-Geräte aktiviert habe?
Oder fehlt etwas?

Hallo Windhund,
vermutlich fehlt noch die benötigte rt2870.bin firmware
Diese ist im sys-kernel/linux-firmware Paket verfügbar.

Ich habe die linux-firmware inzwischen installiert,
wlan0 ist nun bei ifconfig zu sehen, aber nicht mit dhcp.
Also kein Internet.

Ich habe mir einmal die wpa_supplicant von PCLinuxOS herübergeholt,
zusätzlich mit iwconfig wlan0 einige Einstellungen nachgeholt.

Aber nun weiß ich nicht weiter.

Ich denke nicht, dass net-wireless/wpa_supplicant kaputt ist.

Aber: wenn du wlan0 mal über "ifconfig" oder "ip link show" siehst, dann hat der Kernel mal grundsätzlich seinen Job getan und du hast WLAN. Der Rest ist jetzt eben "nur noch" eine Frage der Settings.

Du hast in diesem Fall viele Möglichkeiten. Das kann auch ein Fluch sein ...

ich würde mal so vorgehen:
1. Sicherstellen dass kein einziger wpa_supplicant läuft, sowie andere Teile, welche mir dazwischen funken könnten (die genaue Bezeichnung weis ich jetzt nicht, weil ich systemd verwende und nicht openrc wie üblich):

Das muß ich einmal testen.

Nebenbemerkung: in allen anderen Distributionen sehe ich die 3 WLAN-spots, die hier in unserer Nachbarschaft bestehen.

Der für mich zuständige heißt Asus-AMG, doch davon sehe ich bei gentoo gar nichts.

Aber das muß - wie ich zugebe - nichts bedeuten, denn gentoo arbeitet in dieser Hinsicht anders....

Wenn ich getestet habe, melde ich mich wieder.

Heute habe ich eine neue Erfahrung gemacht:

Ich habe calculate (russische gentoo-Distribution) installiert.

Und als ich auf den KDE-Desktop gelangte, sah ich in der Taskleiste
das NetworkManagement mit 2 Punkten:
1. eth0 Kabel-Verbindung
2. wlan

ich mußte bei der Einrichung von wlan nur den Key eingeben,
danach war ich sofort verbunden.

Und nun frage ich mich natürlich, wieso es da fast automatisch geht
und hier nicht.

Wichtig scheint mir dabei zu sein, daß Gentoo offensichtlich die Netze nicht erkennt,
bei calculate sind alle drei vorhanden.

Ich habe mir die dortige wpa_supplicant geholt, doch keine Änderung.

Was habe ich möglicherweise vergessen zu installieren oder im Kernel zu konfigurieren.
Denn wenn die Netze nicht erkannt werden, nützen m.E. alle anderen Eingriffe so gut wie gar nichts,
wie wir bisher feststellen konnten.

Doch ich gebe nicht auf. Irgendwie muß es doch zu bewerkstelligen sein.

Hm, also eigentlich sollte es auch so wie in deinem calculate über networkmanager auch laufen.

Es sieht ja so aus, als hättest du den Treiber ja am Laufen. Wenn du dich dann für NetworkManager entschließt, sollte der das alles von alleine abklopfen können.

Du must halt den NetworkManager via rc-update mal aktivieren und dann in deinem WindowManager den enstprechenden Client zünden bsp. nm-client oder knetworkmanager.

Das sollte IMHO genauso gut laufen ...

So, nun ist es doch geschafft.

Ich habe nun über wlan Internet, und zwar um die 20 Mbit, bei 100 Mbit insgesamt immerhin akzeptabel.

Hallo zusammen,

meine bisherige Gentoo-Installation auf HD hatte nicht mehr genug Raum,
daher habe ich eine Neu-Installation gewagt, 60 GB Platz müssen reichen.

Doch mein WLAN mit USB-Stick ist wieder da, wo ich schon einmal war.

Alle Schritte, die in diesem Thread vorgeschlagen wurden, sind ohne Erfolg geblieben.

Etwas ist allerdings auch anders als bisher, das zeigt ifconfig:

eno1 war bisher eth0 - ist per devolo übers Stromnetz verbunden - sehr schlechte Verbindung.

wlp0s29u1u7 ist neu - vom NetworkManager eingerichtet - könnte WLAN betreffen,
hat aber keine Verbindung.

wpa_gui bringt mir ein absolut leeres Fenster, keinerlei Hinweise auf irgendeine Verbindung.

Ich plane inzwischen für die nächsten Wochen einen Eingriff in unsere Hausleitungen.
Dabei möchte ich mir eine Leitung vom Router zum PC legen lassen parallel zu einer vorhandenen Leitung.
Die Firma muß noch überprüfen, ob das funktioniert.

Wenn das alles klappt, habe ich wieder eine feste Verbindung und kann WLAN streichen.

Aber dennoch danke für dein Mitdenken und die Hilfe.
Ein gutes neues Jahr wünsche ich noch.
